SLEEP - Don't Underestimate its Power!

"When you sleep, your body undergoes a series of changes that enable the rest that is vital to your overall health. Sleep allows the brain and body to slow down and engage in processes of recovery, promoting better physical and mental performance the next day and over the long-term." American Sleep Foundation

That is a powerful statement and helps us to remember why we are hard wired for sleep. Sleep is when we "recharge, repair, and re-energize!! Yet, we often forget about or underestimate the importance of a good nights sleep.

If you don’t get enough sleep, you might experience side effects like poor memory and focus, weakened immunity, and mood changes. Most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. If you’re having trouble sleeping, check out the information below, and keep asking questions of concern to your doctor or a sleep specialist.

Below I have two detailed links to online articles and one Video (Why Sleep is important) that go into the depth of importance of why sleep is so important to our health!!! It is the foundation that sets the stage for all the other areas that we have been discussing such as stress, mental and physical wellbeing and feeling ready to take on the world with enthusiasm. We need to look at our sleep habits and start to make those "atomic habits" that help us maintain or start to value the power of sleep!

This is 1 hr. long. It is actually two interviews with Dr. Hyman. Perhaps listen while cooking dinner etc. but it is full of a whole host of topics related to sleep. I really like both Dr. Mark Hyman and Druh Purohit and their Functional Medicine approach to health. Functional medicine is looking for the root cause instead of treating the symptoms of health issues and disease.

Thank you "Sisters In Stride", from the bottom of my heart, for taking the 6 week Caring Circle and Restorative Yoga journey with me. It is my hope that it has ignited a spark for you to remind yourself of your strength and a desire to take hold of your health with new eyes and awareness for your future. A future where you feel fueled with optimism to take charge and make small changes forward, feeling empowered, more enlightened and focused for your better health health and wellness.

"Speed does not matter, forward is forward"

The poem below is a favorite of mine. It regards change, uncertainty, and living life even when we do not know all the answers. It speaks to living with a open heart and mind. The more I read it, the greater meaning it brings to me.

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes. because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
